Why re:WORK TRAINING Deserves Your Support — And What Your Dollars Actually Do

re:WORK TRAINING has been changing lives on the south side of Chicago and beyond since 2018. Here's the story behind the mission, the model that makes it work, and why your support matters more than ever.

Why re:WORK TRAINING Deserves Your Support — And What Your Dollars Actually Do

There are a lot of nonprofits asking for your support. Most of them will tell you they're making a difference. Fewer can show you exactly how.

re:WORK TRAINING is one of the ones that can show you.

The People We Serve

re:WORK TRAINING exists for people who have been told, directly or indirectly, that high-growth careers in tech aren't for them.

People who didn't go to the right schools. People who don't have the right networks. People who grew up in neighborhoods where knowing someone who works in tech is the exception, not the rule.

These are people with real skills, real drive, and real potential, who simply haven't had the same access to the playbooks that people in more privileged positions take for granted.

re:WORK TRAINING gives them the playbook.

A Different Kind of Workforce Development

Most workforce development programs are built around training. Take a class. Learn some skills. Get a certificate. Good luck.

re:WORK TRAINING takes a fundamentally different approach.

Every job seeker in our program is coached to treat their career search the way a top-performing salesperson treats a pipeline. They learn how to prospect, how to build relationships, how to follow up, how to convert conversations into opportunities. They become the SDR of their own career.

And they don't do it alone.

Our community model creates a flywheel of mutual support. Using the skills they are building, job seekers strategically prospect professionals from the tech industry. Those professionals become part of the re:WORK community as volunteers and mentors. Over time, they become champions of the people they've invested in. Those champions open doors. Those doors lead to jobs. And the people who got jobs come back and become champions for the next wave.

At our peak, we had nearly 1,500 active participants from over 150 tech companies plugged into this flywheel simultaneously. Not because of a big marketing budget. Because the model works, and people want to be part of something that works.

The Real Barriers We're Breaking

The gap between ambition and opportunity in underserved communities is not a skills gap. It's an access gap.

It's the gap between knowing what you want and knowing how to get there. Between having the drive and having the network. Between being capable and being seen.

re:WORK TRAINING closes that gap, not through charity, but through strategy. We don't tell people what they can become. We show them how to get there, then stand beside them while they do it.

This is what workforce development should look like. And it's what your support makes possible.

What Your Support Funds

Every dollar donated to re:WORK TRAINING goes directly toward:

  • Coaching and curriculum — keeping our career readiness playbook current, rigorous, and effective
  • Community programming — the events, workshops, and networking experiences that power the flywheel
  • Technology and tools — ensuring job seekers have access to the platform and AI coaching resources they need to stay on pace
  • Staff and facilitation — the people who show up every week to coach, support, and hold job seekers accountable
  • Expansion — bringing the model to new cities, new communities, and new populations who need it

This is not overhead. This is the engine.

A Sustainable Model Built for the Long Term

One of the things that sets re:WORK TRAINING apart from other nonprofits is that we're not just asking for donations. We're building toward sustainability.

In November 2025, Shelton Banks, the CEO of re:WORK TRAINING, launched MissionXP, an AI-powered workforce development platform built directly from the systems and strategies that power re:WORK TRAINING. MissionXP is designed to generate revenue by licensing its tools to other organizations, and that revenue flows back to support re:WORK TRAINING's mission.

Your support today helps sustain the work while that model matures. You're not just funding a program. You're investing in a system that is designed to outlast any single funding cycle.

For Foundations and Institutional Funders

If you are a foundation evaluating workforce development investments, here is what makes re:WORK TRAINING different:

  • A proven model with nearly a decade of real-world iteration and results
  • A data infrastructure, through MissionXP, that provides outcome tracking and reporting at a level most nonprofits can't offer
  • Leadership that has lived the problem, built the solution, and continues to lead with both vision and accountability
  • A community that is self-reinforcing, not dependent on a single funder or a single program cycle to sustain itself

We welcome partnership conversations with foundations aligned with workforce development, economic mobility, tech equity, and community-driven innovation.

The Work Is Happening. Be Part of It.

People are getting jobs because of re:WORK TRAINING. Careers are being built. Families are being changed. Communities are being strengthened.

That work continues with or without your support. But with it, it grows faster, reaches further, and changes more lives.

If you believe that where you grew up shouldn't determine how far you go, we'd love to have you with us.
